Through design, reuse, or elimination of materials used in operations, we maintain their utility, value, and service during their useful life, or if not possible, incorporate them into new processes.

Seeking to develop incremental and disruptive innovations in the packaging of the portfolio, in 2022 we continued with the recommendations of the previous analysis on recyclability and materiality. These modifications are a central part of the Circular Economy Strategy and are aligned with both consumer expectations and the brand’s purpose.

Reuso de vasos - Que hemos logrado

Reuse CUP

The ‘Vaso Reúso’ program, launched in November 2018, aims to reduce the use of single-use cardboard cups through the use of the Juan Valdez® brand cup or any cup owned by the consumer.
This reduces both the amount of materials needed to produce single-use cardboard cups, as well as the amount of solid waste generated in the operation. We reuse as much as possible.

In partnership with organizations such as Recupera tu Silla and A Mano Lab, which promote the circular economy and social inclusion, 557 woven chairs were restored, which were handcrafted by Colombian artisans. The program also expanded its coverage in terms of numbers, recovering 614 wooden chairs and sofa-style armchairs, as well as 554 steel and wooden tables. By repairing these items, 17.68 tons of furniture were reused, avoiding the consumption of approximately 4,333 m3 of water and the generation of 45.4 tons of CO2.

Nuestra Historia

Closing of the CyclE

As part of its Circular Economy Strategy, the company is committed to implementing models that ensure the proper management of waste generated during operations by closing the material cycle. The extension of the life cycle is encouraged through the “Don't break the sustainability cycle” program, which was created in 2014 with the aim of recovering and incorporating materials into other production chains, reducing the amount of waste disposed of in landfills—and, therefore, its impact— and to include associations of professional recyclers by promoting their participation in this initiative and benefiting them directly.

In 2024, we managed 323 tons of organic waste and 87 tons of usable waste.

More than 2,400 tons have been properly managed since 2014 in 39 stores located in Bogotá, Bucaramanga, Cali, Cartagena, Pereira, Santa Marta, and Barranquilla.

In addition, we manage 100% of the organic and recyclable waste generated at our production plant.

CAPSULE COLLECTION

Following the launch of Juan Valdez® capsules in February 2023, the company installed 30 collection points in different cities to:

Collect used capsules from customers.

Recover coffee grounds to transform them into organic fertilizer.

Reuse the aluminum in store furniture.

More than 47,000 capsules have been recovered in our 30 collection points located in stores in Colombia since 2023.

If possible, add a powerful message at the end stating that in 2025 we will continue working to develop these and new projects that contribute to our purpose as a brand. The same applies to Climate Action.
