Women Coffee Growers

Since 2017 we set out to work for the reduction of the gender gap in coffee growing from our role as marketers of premium 100% Colombian coffee.

We promote the social and economic empowerment of women coffee growers through the commercialization of their coffee and the visibility of their work through the branding seasons. We also seek to encourage good productive practices, associativity and care for the environment with a focus on gender equity.

We have made this possible with the special editions of coffee “Coffee Women” through which we make visible the work of women in coffee growing and their condition as rural businesswomen, connecting consumers with a purpose and paying tribute to coffee of the highest quality.

In 2018, the protagonist was the coffee of the Ocamonte Women Coffee Growers Association ASOMUCAO (Santander). For the occasion, the Ocamonte Women Coffee Growers meeting was held in the area, with more than 100 women, not only members of the association but also coffee growers from surrounding areas. Workshops on leadership and union strengthening were held, as well as the delivery of fertilizer produced by our organic waste utilization program.

In 2019 the brand set out to transform the special edition of Mujeres Cafeteras into a program with a greater scope, in which the purchase volumes were increased at a higher differential price for women coffee growers.
Within the framework of this program, we created an alliance with the National Federation of Coffee Growers, the Bancolombia Foundation and the Solidaridad Network to strengthen, for two years, the technical, productive, associative and environmental dimensions of the Association of Women of Viotá and Tequendama- ASOMUCAVIT, from whom we bought more than 20,000 kg of coffee, under a gender equity approach. We guaranteed to buy coffee from these 22 women from the village of Bajo Palmar, Viotá (Cundinamarca) for the two years of the strengthening project, at a higher differential price.

In 2021, we launched our product line “Mujeres Cafeteras”, a coffee that highlights the work, effort and passion of Colombian coffee growers and emphasizes their role as rural entrepreneurs. This was a significant achievement, as it allowed us to strengthen the program in terms of reach and impact, working with more associations of women coffee growers in different departments of the country.

Our Mujeres Cafeteras program is present in 9 departments of Colombia: Risaralda, Cauca, Huila, Valle del Cauca, Magdalena, Cundinamarca, Quindío, Norte de Santander and Tolima.

During these 6 years, we have managed to positively impact the lives of more than 800 women beneficiaries through purchasing and more than 370 women beneficiaries through empowerment.

This work has been accompanied by the acquisition of more than 170,000 kilograms of green coffee. Additionally, we have established collaborations with 11 associations and 2 cooperatives from 10 different departments in Colombia.
